Issue story

My beat is Urbana education. For my issue story, I'm planning on using the news angle of the replacement of the Washington Early Childhood Center which will occur because the 1 percent sales tax increase passed on April 7. I'm planning on covering the importance of early childhood education, especially for at risk children, and the problems that are encountered in the process. If you have any other ideas for me about angles, let me know.
Thanks guys!

  2. Are there any other places that have passed a similar referendum??--that way, you could look and see if the referendum actually affected the students.

  3. and i know you'll remember the student opinion. it's nice to think every time i buy a polar pop, some at-risk kid benefits, but If i have to pay extra for it, i won't.

  4. Your idea sounds solid. It's great that the referendum just past, adding a fresh tidbit to work with. I can't think of anything to offer at the moment, but I'll give it some thought. Good luck.

  10. This is a good idea. Very relevant. When I was in high school, I helped out at a pre-school, and there are loads of things kids are supposed to know before they enter kindergarten that are practiced in early childhood education. Also, the social aspect of preschool is so important for kids. I would try to talk to someone in early childhood education from the College of Education about how important it is. Also, the angle of the referendum works really well.

  11. My sister is a senior in early childhood education. If there's anybody you want to know about, I could ask her who she knows.
